How Your Group Can Help

Unique Ideas of How You Can Help

The first way you can help, which is not unique, is to pray for the situation, for the victims and their families, for the workers, for the community. Praying is the most important thing any of us can do! Only after that, can we effectively reach out.

Check with your church denomination to see if there is an affiliated church in the area of the tragedy. Call them to find out ways to help.

Check out the state’s Department of Education website and look for what school districts are in the vicinity of the tragedy. Call that district to see if they have any needs.

If you are a mental health worker, an emergency response worker, or medical personnel, check with the proper authorities to see if they need your help.

If you have a group of young people wanting to do something, think about a fundraiser to earn money to help the cause – a bake sale, a garage sale, service projects. a car wash.

If you are a coach, your team can sponsor a sports-a-thon to raise money. For example, if you have a basketball team, they can shoot 100 free throws and get pledges for how many free throws they make. Let’s say someone sponsors a student for $.10 per free throw he makes. If the student makes 67 free throws, then the person would owe $6.70.
